Tyrannosaurus Rex

Classification: Dromaeosaurid dinosaurs, predatory dinosaurs, tetanurans

Body length: 13 m

Body weight: 7 t

Period: Late Cretaceous

Localities: North America

This fearsome predator had large, strong jaws and sharp teeth for tearing meat. A tyrannosaur’s bite was equivalent to three tonnes, or about the weight of an average elephant.
The hind legs were large and strong, but the front legs were so small that they could not possibly be suitable for walking. They must have been used, like teeth, to tear food.
Current estimates suggest that this dinosaur could not exceed 40 km/h and that it took several seconds to turn 45 degrees.
