Dimetrodon is often confused with dinosaurs or their time, when in fact it became extinct about 40 million years before the first dinosaur appeared in the Triassic Period.
Dimetrodon was an herbivore that lived in swampy areas, had a huge head and mouth, large, strong jaws and two types of teeth – sharp canine and scissor teeth. It ate other pelycosaurs, insects and other mammals.
It could leave its cold, lazy habitat long before dawn, much earlier than pelycosaurs without a “sail”, then catch and eat them.
